Not Buying Diapers Seems Like a Fantasy of Mine

My husband and I have been buying diapers for twelve years. My first son was not potty trained until he was five. Actually our second son was potty trained before our first. We were not successful at potty training our oldest son ourselves. Success did not come until he went to his second pre-school specifically for autistic students. We were so happy when both are sons were potty trained. Diapers are costly and it felt good not to have that expense.
My two oldest sons were potty trained for only a short time prior to the twins’ arrival. Potty training them has been even harder than my oldest son. When they entered pre-school I was optimistic that their pre-school teachers would have success with them just as they did with my oldest son, but that was not the case. It wasn’t until after they turned five that they started going “pee-pee” in the potty. After months of going “#1” in the potty I have to say that we finally have found success with one twin going “#2”. We are not on our fourth day completely diaper free. We hope that the other twin will follow suit shortly.
I am hoping that my diaper buying days will soon be over, but at the same time I do not believe pushing my second twin until he is ready. I do believe that you have to adjust your training methods for each child because a technique that worked with one child may not work for another. I just need to remain calm and continue moving on and work to train my son until my diaper buying days are done.
