What Is Enough?

Money is important; no one will tell you different. You need money to have your basic needs met (e.g. food, clothing, shelter, etc.). There are many people in our society who struggle to earn enough to meet their basic needs. There are also others who do have enough and still strive for even more. In many instances earning more requires working more (which will reduce the time you have available to spend with your family). If an individual is able to live comfortably (and have all of their basic needs met) then why do some still strive for more, even if it is at the expense of their family?
I am currently job hunting and “what is enough?” is one of the questions I have asked myself throughout this process. Some positions I have considered applying for will require me to work more than others. I want my kids to remember the time the spent with me growing up and not what I can buy for them. Considering not only the financial needs, but also the emotional needs of my children has assisted me in keeping my priorities in perspective. Money isn’t everything.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs (1 Timothy 6:10).
