Does Work Ever End?

It really bothers me when my husband looks at his phone constantly when we are together. What can be so important that he has to direct all of his attention to his phone? In many instances he is doing something involving work, but when does work end?

Today there is this notion that work never ends. Thirty years ago, unless it was a dire emergency an individual would not get contacted by his/her job at night. Unless someone brought physical work home, work was left at work. Today the world is very different and it is common to receive e-mails at all hours of the day. When is it okay not to look at your e-mail? Is it okay not to respond until morning?

I say yes, it is okay. This year I have been pretty good at drawing a line. Unless I know for sure that something is going on at the office that needs my attention, I will not check my e-mail at night or over the weekend. I do not feel that I am missing anything because I know that if there was an emergency someone will call me. My husband is still a work in progress, but in time I am confident he will follow suit.

The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them (Proverbs 11:3).
